Often companies believe they can hire a person of color, give them a fancy title with absolutely little to no transparency to actually make a difference for a diverse supplier/vendor. We’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly systems that corporations hide behind. Companies also make the mistake that DEIB is only the responsibility of the Human Resources dept. HR should focus DEIB of the workforce. The DEIB of the supply chain is a completely different process for the professionals (US)!

We meet with the leadership team to explore goals and to build a “Why me, Why now” story to capture the reasons around a supplier diversity program. We will perform a supplier scrub to determine if there are any eligible existing diverse suppliers that need certification. We will identify diverse alternatives to add or replace existing suppliers. We will build requests for proposals/quotes/information. We will build a “How to do business with us” playbook for diverse suppliers. This is just a small summary of the value added to a supplier diversity program. Everyone can be intentional regardless of the size of the company.
